Cobalt Iron Awarded Patent for Techniques Enabling Management of IT Resource Use in Complex, Multitenant Environments

By November 28, 2018 Press Release

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Nov. 20, 2018 — Cobalt Iron Inc., a leading provider of enterprise data protection SaaS, today announced it has been issued a patent (U.S. Patent No. 10133642) for its techniques for presenting views of a backup environment for an organization on a suborganizational basis. In short, the new Cobalt Iron patent discloses unique ways to manage and track IT resource usage in complex, multitenant environments.

“Because IT management systems are not able to represent the organizational dynamics of modern enterprises adequately, customers and service providers have had to force-fit organizational representations into their tools. Moreover, while current management solutions are static and typically hierarchical in nature, modern enterprises are constantly changing and complex in their structure,” said Rob Marett, chief technology officer at Cobalt Iron. “The techniques represented by our new patent address these issues making it easier for service providers, systems administrators, backup administrators, and other IT professionals to represent and manage their IT infrastructure and enterprise organizations more accurately and more easily.”

This new patent extends Cobalt Iron’s advanced multitenancy capabilities for managing the dynamics and complexities of modern enterprises. It discloses critical elements including:

  • Advanced multitenancy features including a plurality of organizational levels across a complex ecosystem of customers, partners, service providers, distributers, and vendors;
  • A dynamically modifiable matrix of organizations.
  • The means to track those organizations for viewing, chargeback, reporting, resource utilization by organization, etc.
  • Techniques for provisioning of backup or other IT services based on IT resource utilization, resource consumption by a user, enterprise security settings, roles, and other factors.

The patent was issued on Nov. 20. The techniques described in the patent support the Cobalt Iron Adaptive Data Protection and Commander user interface.
